Anthony Barajas was a 19 year old famous Tik Toker that had almost one million followers.

The app is a video sharing app that allows users to share up to 3 minute long clips. The account he used can be found under the name: itsanthonymichael. His new love interest, Rylee Goodrich (18) was also an active user on the Tik Tok app under the username: ryleegoodrich.

On July 26th, 2021, Rylee eagerly curled her hair and anticipated her first date with Anthony. Rylee’s father said that she “really, really liked this boy” and that he “really, really liked her” too. The two had been on group dates prior, but this particular night was their first time alone. Anthony planned to take her to enjoy some barbecue food followed by seeing the new Purge movie, the Forever Purge. Sometime during the movie, Rylee texted her mom that the storyline was stupid and boring. That was her last text message ever sent.

After the movie, a worker was in the midst of cleaning up the theater when he found the bodies of both Anthony and Rylee.

An autopsy determined that Rylee was shot in the back of the head while Anthony was shot in the eye. Rylee pronounced dead on the scene, but Anthony grasped onto life and was rushed to the hospital where he was placed on life support. It is reported that only six tickets were purchased for that showing meaning that the theater was quite empty, but witnesses didn’t hear any loud gunshots over the booming speakers.

On July 30th, 2021, Anthony was officially removed from life support. His organs were donated to others in great need.

Police have now arrested a 20 year old male, Joseph Jimenez, for the shootings. Rylee’s wallet and a gun matching the gun used in the shooting were found in his home. Authorities have concluded that the murders were unprovoked and random. He didn’t know Anthony or Rylee.

Joseph was charged with murder, attempted murder inflicting great bodily injury, and a special circumstance charge of lying in wait — making him eligible for the death penalty if convicted. His attempted murder charge is expected to most likely change now that Anthony has passed away. Joseph’s arraignment continues on August 5th.
